HAVEN Training

The HAVEN Program is a campus initiative to increase support for student survivors of interpersonal violence (stalking, abusive relationships, and sexual assault) and to further the university’s efforts to prevent interpersonal violence. The idea is to create multiple “safe spaces” around the campus for students to go for information, discussion, and referral.  Faculty, staff, and students may attend a HAVEN training session and then receive a sign for their door which indicates that they are a safe space to go to discuss issues around sexual assault, abusive relationships, and stalking. You can also find more about HAVEN training on the Creating Allies to Survivors page.

Frequently Asked Questions about HAVEN

Q: How long is the training? What if I can’t stay for the whole thing?

HAVEN trainings are four hours long. Participants are required to arrive on time and stay for the entire training. We have found that participants who come late or leave early are disruptive to others in the training.

Q. I signed up for a training but my scheduled changed. Now what?

Email haventrainer@unc.edu to cancel your registration for the HAVEN training.

Q: Training times span my usual lunch/dinner hour! Will there be food?

We provide pizza during breaks for student participants. If you’re vegan or have other specific dietary needs, please let us know when you sign up for the training and we will do our best to accommodate you. We want you to be comfortable, so feel free to bring a snack and drink as needed.

Q: No location is listed for my training date. How will I know where to go?

You will be notified of the training location approximately 24-48 business hours before your training. All training locations are located on the UNC-Chapel Hill main campus.

Q: Who attends HAVEN?

Our trainings are for all UNC-CH students, staff, and faculty. People of all gender expressions, gender identities, sexual orientations, and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Q: I am a graduate student. Do I attend the student training or the faculty/staff training?

We offer trainings especially for graduate students, recognizing the unique role you play as students and teachers. If you do not see a graduate student date listed, you can choose to attend a student OR faculty/staff training.

Q: I completed HAVEN training but have lost / have not yet received my door sign. Who should I contact?

If you have questions about your door sign, send an email to dos@unc.edu.
