Whether you are a parent, guardian, friend, or University employee, your support of a UNC student who experiences IPV can help that person heal as well as achieve success in his/her/hir academic career. There are many ways that you can help a a Carolina student who has experienced interpersonal violence (IPV), including sexual assault, abusive relationships, or stalking. One way to learn more about how to help is to get HAVEN trained!
It is also important to note that having a student, friend or family member who is raped, abused, or assaulted can be a very upsetting experience. For this reason it is also important that you take care of yourself. Even if your student isn’t ready to talk to the Office of the Dean of Students or a hotline specialist, you can get support for yourself. You can also read ideas about how to help your student through the recovery process on this website.
If you’d like to make a donation in honor of your student, please visit the Victim’s Assistance Fund page and demonstrate your commitment to the fight against interpersonal violence!
