Help for UNC Employees

Get help now.

The University is committed to providing a workplace that is free from violence by establishing preventative measures, by holding perpetrators of violence accountable, and by providing assistance and support to victims.

If you are experiencing or have experienced interpersonal violence, you may want to consider:

  • Contacting the Office of Human Resources for help accessing support through the Employee Assistance Program, 919‐929‐2362, or accessing UNC’s Workplace Violence Policy
  • Seeking medical attention at UNC Hospitals or the hospital closest to home, especially you’ve experienced a physical or sexual assault recently. The Beacon program helps provide coordinated care.
  • Seeking counseling to help you cope with the trauma. The UNC Department of Psychology Community Clinic is one low-cost alternative
  • Contacting the University Ombuds Office to talk in confidence about any workplace issue, problem, or dispute.
  • Reviewing resources and policies at the UNCParenting website if you have children.
  • Professional help through hotlines:
Local:  The Compass Center for Women and Families (formerly the Family Violence Prevention Center) or Orange County Rape Crisis Center Center
National: National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1.800.799.SAFE
    National Sexual Assault Hotline, 1.800.656.HOPE,
    National Sexual Assault Online Hotline
    Stalking Resource Center
  • Reaching out to the LGBTQ Center or Project Rainbow Net for support if you’ve been assaulted, abused or stalked and are concerned about coming forward because of your sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression (or that of the person who hurt you)
  • Reporting the incident to law enforcement (call 911 in most areas). If you have questions about the criminal justice process, talking with someone on the National Sexual Assault Hotline, 1.800.656.HOPE or National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1.800.799.SAFE, can help
  • Contacting a HAVEN ally (look for their placard on office doors, residence hall room doors, laptops, etc.) to help you consider which of these options you want to pursue
  • Calling Hopeline NC at 919.231.4525 anytime if you are having suicidal thoughts
  • Learning more about interpersonal violence
